Original Saab parts 12783122 (Vector/Aero) and 12783124 (Convertible) disappeared from the supply chain long ago. The former OEM manufacturer stopped production. No aftermarket supplier stepped in with a Saab-specific replacement. Universal heating mats existed, but they introduced new problems rather than solving the original one.

The original pads are not flat rectangles. They are shaped around Saab’s seat foam architecture, with defined heating zones across the seat base, side bolsters, and lumbar transition areas. Universal aftermarket pads ignore this completely. They rely on generic layouts and often require cutting, trimming, or rerouting wiring inside the seat.

Developing a Saab-Specific Seat Heating Pad From Scratch

As Sebastian Heuschmid explains in the project brief, there was no usable aftermarket base to work from. The former manufacturer no longer produced the pads, and no alternative matched Saab’s original specification.

So Heuschmid developed the pads from the ground up!
