And the next public checkpoint is unusually bold: during Easter 2026, at the Restoration Show in Jönköping (Elmia), the team will work in front of visitors and finish the service car, a 1974 Saab 95. The rally car itself will be assembled later, with a similar public build planned for Restoration Show 2027.

    There’s less similar than might be imagined. The race sedan has the 4 bolt hubs and dual pot fixed caliper front discs. The support wagon has the single piston, pivot caliper discs and five bolt hubs. I believe the ’64 was still using the rubber inner C/V and the ’74 used the ‘bi-pode’ roller bearing inner. The bell housing of the stroker and the V4 don’t allow final drive swapping. The transmission cases are different, interchangeable, but the freedom of internal gearing selection doesn’t transfer to allowing the differently reinforced later version external case to be swapped. Fuel pumps are different, radiators are different, waterpump is different, and on, and on.
