Some replacement parts become difficult to find because they are complex or expensive to manufacture. Others simply disappear because they are small, model-specific components that no longer justify another production run. The windshield washer nozzle fitted to early Saab 9-5 models belongs firmly in the second category.
On August 7, 2026, SKANDIX announced a newly available windshield washer nozzle for the first-generation Saab 9-5. The new part carries SKANDIX article number 1049295 and is cross-referenced to the discontinued Saab number 5584917, with OE reference 4914610. SKANDIX lists its own product as the direct alternative to the original Saab item, which remains in its catalog only as a reference because it can no longer be supplied.
SKANDIX announcement: Windshield washer nozzle for Saab 9-5
For owners of early 9-5s, the important part of this announcement is not simply that another washer nozzle has appeared in an aftermarket catalog. SKANDIX has reproduced the earlier two-jet design associated with Saab 5584917, a part that has become increasingly awkward to source as a new genuine component.

Saab 5584917 Returns as SKANDIX 1049295
The original Saab 5584917 windshield washer nozzle was mounted in the hood and used for the left, center and right washer positions. There are three nozzles per car.
SKANDIX specifies the new 1049295 as:
- Reference: Saab 5584917
- OE reference: 4914610
- SKANDIX article number: 1049295
- Application: windshield
- Positions: left, center and right
- Spray pattern: twin jet
- Heated: no
- Required quantity: three
The photographs supplied by SKANDIX also make the construction easy to recognize. The familiar black nozzle body contains two individually directed outlets, while the lower section passes through the hood and connects to the washer-fluid line beneath it.
That matters for owners trying to keep the original washer arrangement rather than fitting a generic nozzle requiring modification to the hood, hose or spray pattern.

SKANDIX still maintains the old Saab product page for article 1010586 / Saab 5584917, which is useful because it confirms precisely what its new replacement is intended to supersede. That original item is now marked “nicht mehr lieferbar,” or no longer available.
The archived listing identifies it as a Saab-branded windshield washer nozzle for all three hood positions and gives the same 4914610 OE cross-reference. SKANDIX now points directly from that discontinued Saab listing to 1049295 as the replacement. That makes the relationship between the two parts unusually clear:
Original Saab: 5584917
Old SKANDIX catalog number: 1010586
Status: discontinued
New SKANDIX replacement: 1049295
OE reference: 4914610
This is preferable to trying to identify a visually similar universal nozzle from dimensions alone.

Check the Chassis Number Before Ordering
There is one important detail that can easily be missed on the current SKANDIX page. SKANDIX labels 1049295 broadly as suitable for “Saab 9-5 (-2010)”, but its own fitment information also states that compatibility depends on model year, factory code and chassis number. In other words, this should not be interpreted as the correct nozzle for every first-generation 9-5 built through 2010.
Other Saab parts catalogs give the chassis break much more explicitly. Speedparts lists 5584917 for Saab 9-5 model years 1998–2004, with the note:
Chassis up to 43011867.
It also confirms a quantity of three per vehicle. eSaabParts provides the corresponding changeover information. Its catalog shows 5584917 up to chassis 43011867, while the later washer nozzle 12778849 applies from chassis 43011868 onward. So the practical dividing line is:
5584917 / SKANDIX 1049295: up to chassis 43011867
Later 12778849 nozzle: from chassis 43011868
That chassis number is much more useful than simply describing the reproduction as a “1998–2004 Saab 9-5 nozzle,” particularly around the 2004 changeover. Saab Parts North America independently lists 5584917 as a windshield washer nozzle for the 1999–2004 9-5, reflecting the U.S. model-year introduction of the car.
For anyone unfamiliar with where the early cars sit in the complete 9-5 timeline, the first-generation model itself remained in production until 2010, long after this washer-nozzle change. SaabPlanet previously covered the production history when the final first-generation car was completed in Trollhättan. Read: The Last First-Generation Saab 9-5
Why SKANDIX Recommends Replacing All Three
A Saab 9-5 equipped with this arrangement uses the same basic nozzle at three positions across the hood. SKANDIX specifically recommends replacing all three nozzles together to obtain a uniform spray pattern.
There is a practical reason for that recommendation. On a car that has spent more than two decades in service, each original nozzle may have aged differently. Mineral deposits, washer-fluid residue, previous attempts at cleaning or adjustment and simple wear can change the shape and direction of the jets.
Installing one new twin-jet nozzle beside two original examples therefore does not necessarily restore the factory pattern across the full windshield. Replacing all three gives the system three nozzles with the same internal geometry and condition. Their final aiming can then be adjusted as a group.
That is particularly relevant to this older Saab arrangement because it does not use the broad fan-type spray familiar from many newer vehicles. Each nozzle has two defined jets, so nozzle condition and aiming directly determine where washer fluid lands on the glass.
The Price Also Encourages a Three-Nozzle Replacement
At the time of writing, SKANDIX lists the new nozzle at €19.90 per unit including German VAT, excluding shipping. The price drops to €16.50 each when three are ordered, which happens to correspond exactly with the number required for one car. That puts a complete three-nozzle replacement at €49.50 before shipping, based on the current quantity price.
The distinction is worth making because the German product title contains the word Satz, or set, while SKANDIX separately states “required quantity in vehicle: 3” and applies its lower unit price from three pieces. Owners ordering the part should therefore follow the quantity information in the product listing rather than assume that one article automatically represents all three hood nozzles. Prices and inventory can, of course, change after publication.
5584917 Had Not Completely Vanished From the Aftermarket
The SKANDIX introduction should also be described accurately. It does not mean that no replacement for 5584917 could be found anywhere before August 2026.
Speedparts, for example, has its own replacement listed under the original reference, although its current page shows the product as temporarily out of stock. The company likewise identifies it as a three-per-car nozzle for early 9-5s.
Some specialist Saab vendors also retain genuine 5584917 references in their databases, although availability varies considerably. RendCarParts, for example, identifies the genuine Saab version as discontinued and specifies the same 1998–2004 / chassis up to 43011867 application.
What has changed is that SKANDIX has now added its own newly manufactured version to a catalog with international Saab distribution, while simultaneously maintaining the original Saab listing and its cross-reference. That is the actual news.
It also illustrates why blanket claims that “Saab parts are impossible to find” are not especially useful. Availability differs enormously from component to component. Some genuine parts remain in stock, others survive as NOS, some are shared with GM applications, while increasingly specific Saab items are being reverse-engineered or reproduced by specialist suppliers.

A Useful Reproduction for the Early 9-5 Parts Shelf
There is nothing technically dramatic about 5584917. It weighs only a few grams, contains no electronics and requires no programming. Its significance is much simpler: it is a model-specific part that Saab stopped supplying, and a correctly referenced new replacement is now back on the shelf. For owners of early Saab 9-5s, especially cars being restored rather than merely kept roadworthy, that is preferable to searching breakers for 20-year-old plastic components whose internal condition is impossible to judge before installation.
The most important thing before ordering is the chassis break. SKANDIX 1049295 should be treated as the replacement for Saab 5584917, not as a universal washer nozzle for every 1998–2010 9-5. Cars around the MY2004 transition should be checked by VIN, with 43011867 / 43011868 marking the documented change between the earlier and later nozzle references. For the correct early car, however, the choice has just become considerably simpler: three new twin-jet nozzles, the original Saab reference preserved in the catalog, and no need to gamble on used originals whose best years may already be behind them.
