New Saab Service Center in Trollhättan – Factory THN in Stallbacka

A specialized Saab workshop now operates on former factory grounds, one year after opening its doors in Trollhättan.

Exactly one year ago, something significant happened in Stallbacka. Not a nostalgic ceremony, not a symbolic gathering, but the opening of a fully operational Saab-specialized workshop inside the former industrial area where Saab cars were once designed, tested, and assembled.

Factory THN opened its doors on Mellanvägen 5 in Trollhättan, directly on the historic grounds of the old Saab Automobile complex. The location is not a marketing detail. It is the same district where technical development once took place, and where generations of engineers refined everything from crash structures to turbo calibrations.

Built by People Who Know Saab From the Inside

Factory THN introduced itself on February 25, 2025, with a clear message: welcome to service or repair your car with Saab specialists who bring over 40 years of experience in technical development, testing, validation, and repair of Saab vehicles.

This is not a general workshop that later decided to add Saab to the list. The founders and technicians come directly from Saab’s own technical ecosystem. Their background includes development work, testing procedures, diagnostics, and field repair operations from the factory era.

They openly state that they work on all brands. But Saab is the core competence.

Their collaboration with Hedin Bil, formerly Orio, ensures access to original Saab parts. They also maintain daily parts logistics through Auto Experten in Uddevalla, with deliveries twice per day. That means shorter downtime and less improvisation with incompatible components – something Saab owners know can quickly become problematic, especially on Saab 9-5ng or late 9-3 models.

Bodywork, paint, and wheel alignment are outsourced. Everything else – mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, diagnostics, service, and fleet maintenance – is handled in-house.

Real Workshop, Real Diagnostics

The photos from the workshop tell a precise story. A silver Saab 9-3 with its intake system removed mid-service. A technician connected via laptop diagnostics inside the cabin. A Saab NG 9-5 undergoing repair. No staged imagery. No branding gimmicks.

What stands out is the working method. Diagnostic tools are actively used. The environment is clean but industrial. Lifts, tooling walls, and structured parts storage suggest a workshop built for efficiency, not for show.

One recent customer, Johan, who had repair work completed on his 2011 Saab NG 9-5, described the experience as technically precise and personally handled. The workshop reposted his review with a clear statement: that is exactly how they want it to feel.

This combination matters. Saab ownership today often depends on two factors: technical competence and trust.

Community Engagement From Day One

In June 2025, Factory THN organized a small community event at the NEVS / Factory THN premises. They hosted a parts, tools, and Saab memorabilia sale. Among the items: original early-2000s Saab factory flags from the GM production era.

The Facebook engagement campaign was simple – like and share to win a Saab flag. The winner was drawn publicly. More flags were made available during the August open-day sale.

This may seem minor, but it signals something important. Trollhättan still carries emotional weight for Saab owners worldwide. A workshop operating in that district that understands the symbolic value of factory-era memorabilia demonstrates awareness of the brand’s legacy without turning it into a museum narrative.

Practical Advantages for Scandinavian Saab Owners

For Saab drivers in western Sweden, especially around Trollhättan, Uddevalla, and Gothenburg, the practical advantage is obvious. Access to a workshop run by former Saab technical staff reduces diagnostic guesswork.

Late-generation models such as the 9-3 II (2003–2014) and the NG 9-5 (2010–2012) require proper software diagnostics and platform-specific understanding. Systems such as XWD, advanced ABS modules, column integration modules, and TTiD bi-turbo engines cannot be treated as generic GM derivatives.

Being serviced in the same industrial zone where these vehicles were originally developed carries operational benefits. The technicians understand design intent. That often shortens troubleshooting time.

The workshop also offers fleet services. That suggests they are not only targeting enthusiasts but also companies still running Saab vehicles as part of their vehicle pools. In Sweden, this is still relevant.

The Importance of Specialized Workshops in 2026

Saab production ended more than a decade ago. The cars remain on the road because of independent specialists, parts networks, and committed owners.

Factory THN represents a structural shift. It is not a former Saab dealership converted into a generic garage. It is a new entity established by professionals who previously worked within the Saab technical framework and chose to continue operating in the same geographic ecosystem.

That matters. Modern Saab ownership increasingly depends on knowledge continuity. Electronic modules, software adaptations, and platform-specific systems are no longer intuitive for general mechanics. Workshops like Factory THN help preserve operational reliability for existing Saab fleets.

One Year In – And Booking Slots Filling

As of this spring, Factory THN reports available service slots with shorter waiting times. They actively encourage owners to book maintenance in advance.

Contact details remain straightforward:

  • Email: bilverkstan@factorythn.se
  • Phone: Håkan +46 73 966 58 08
  • Phone: Jerker +46 70 882 29 04
  • Address: Mellanvägen 5, Trollhättan

For a brand sustained largely by owner loyalty and specialist competence, that is exactly what matters.

Why This Development Is Relevant Beyond Sweden

For international Saab enthusiasts, Factory THN signals something broader: Trollhättan remains active in the Saab ecosystem. Not through production, but through competence retention.

Visitors traveling to Sweden often seek out the Saab Car Museum. Now, there is also an operational workshop in Stallbacka that continues working on Saab vehicles daily. That continuity is practical, not symbolic. And one year after opening, Factory THN has already established itself as a reference point for Saab service in Trollhättan. In a post-production era, that is not a small detail.
