A Saab Parts Revival Years in the Making
For many Saab owners, especially those driving rarities like the Saab 9-4X, sourcing replacement parts has become a logistical nightmare. Since production ceased and the supply chains dissolved, owners have relied on used parts, speculative eBay listings, and dead-end inquiries. But in 2025, something significant changed.
SSK Reservdelar AB, the official parts store operated by Svenska Saabklubben, has stepped into the gap. And not just with standard components—but with parts that haven’t been seen on shelves in years. Windshields for the 9-4X. Factory-style leather upholstery. And the promise of more to come.
This is not just about parts. It’s about infrastructure, commitment, and long-term viability for a community that refuses to let Saab fade into obscurity.
Windshields That Weren’t Supposed to Exist Anymore
Among the biggest announcements is the return of new windshields for the Saab 9-4X, a vehicle that has teetered on the edge of extinction due to the unavailability of even the most basic components.
Until now, a cracked or shattered 9-4X windshield in Europe meant a parts car or an export-only search. Not anymore. Thanks to strategic sourcing and logistical persistence, SSK Reservdelar has secured an initial shipment, with 10 units arriving mid-June and additional batches in the pipeline.
“You could practically never buy a 9-4X windshield in Europe before,” said Stefan from Svenska Saabklubben during a video interview on Marcus & Manuela’s Saab Channel:
This move could literally save dozens of cars from being scrapped, proving that with the right coordination, even rest-noted parts can be resurrected.
OEM Upholstery Is Back—With Familiar Hands Behind the Stitching
Another headline announcement from the club: the return of authentic Saab upholstery production in Trollhättan, handled by the very seamstresses who previously worked for OEM suppliers like Hedin.
This means exact-match stitching, original material feel, and design continuity across:
- Complete front/rear seat sets
- Individual driver or passenger cushions
- Special editions like the Griffin models
Orders are custom-made with a 2–3 week delivery timeline. It’s a critical move for restorers and preservationists who until now had to rely on used, mismatched, or universal seat covers.

Membership Matters: Why You Need to Join Svenska Saabklubben
SSK Reservdelar AB isn’t a traditional for-profit auto parts business. It’s a wholly owned initiative of the Svenska Saabklubben, and purchasing is reserved exclusively for members.
That might sound restrictive, but it’s actually the opposite: it’s a way to protect the supply chain from speculators and ensure that genuine enthusiasts keep these vehicles alive.
Membership benefits include:
- Access to rare and new-old-stock parts
- Quarterly “Bakrutan” magazine delivery
- Option to receive “Saab Magazine” as a printed add-on
- Contribution to development of 3–4 new parts annually
And yes, you can join even if you don’t currently own a Saab.
What’s Next? Clues from Trollhättan
According to Stefan, there are more projects underway, but many remain under wraps. However, the direction is clear: parts that haven’t been available for years will begin to return, often with better quality assurance and availability than the original supply chains ever offered.

Each year, the club aims to develop or reintroduce three to four key parts. These include discontinued body components, interior trim, electronics, and even mechanical assemblies. And the more members join, the more ambitious these targets can become.
It’s not about volume. It’s about precision, preservation, and making sure no Saab gets scrapped for want of a single part.
A Model for Community-Driven Preservation
The model SSK Reservdelar AB follows could inspire other legacy vehicle communities. It combines club membership, volunteer expertise, and a decentralized supplier network to fill the vacuum left by defunct OEM chains.
But this isn’t theory. It’s already working.
From upholstery to glass, from philosophy to logistics, the Swedish Saab Club is building more than a parts store—they’re building a legacy.
For Saab enthusiasts, especially those with rare or vulnerable models like the 9-4X, this marks a turning point. It means hope, support, and sustainability.
And that’s worth more than any catalog number.

It’s honestly amazing to see this level of commitment from the Swedish Saab community. I’ve been hunting for a genuine 9000 CSE headlight wiper motor for years—finally got it through SSK Reservdelar. Thank you for keeping the brand alive in the most practical way possible.
Just ordered a brand-new coolant reservoir for my 9-5 OG. OEM quality, fast shipping, and even came with installation tips. This project from Svenska Saabklubben is exactly what the global Saab community needs right now.
As the owner of a 9-4X, I had nearly given up hope of finding a replacement windshield. The availability of new units through SSK Reservdelar is a game-changer. It’s encouraging to see the community stepping up where the industry has fallen short.
The revival of OEM upholstery production in Trollhättan is fantastic news. My 9-3 Griffin has been in need of seat restoration, and knowing that original materials and craftsmanship are accessible again is a relief.
As a long-time Saab enthusiast, I am thrilled to see Svenska Saabklubben’s proactive approach to preserving our beloved vehicles. The reintroduction of rare parts, such as the 9-4X windshields and OEM upholstery, is a testament to the club’s dedication and understanding of the community’s needs. Their efforts not only keep our cars on the road but also maintain the authenticity and integrity that Saab owners value. This initiative sets a commendable example for how passionate communities can come together to support and sustain a legacy.
While the initiative to bring back rare Saab parts is commendable, I have reservations about the accessibility and long-term sustainability of this approach. Limiting purchases to club members might exclude casual owners who also need these parts. Additionally, relying on a centralized source for rare components could pose risks if supply chains face disruptions. It would be beneficial to see a more inclusive and diversified strategy to ensure that all Saab owners, regardless of their affiliation, have access to essential parts.
George the annual membership helps keep the organization alive. I consider my membership a very small part of ability to purchase good quality parts. Living in the USA, I do find the additional tariff that have hit me hurt. I do expect this Tariff business to fade away some time soon.
Dear SSC!
Great to see more and more parts are becoming available for restoring, and keeping in good safe and pleasure condition our Saabs.
Would be great to participate also as a professional in upholstery. Customers give their vehicles to recondition interiors and something I can suggest little improvements within the car design context.
Yesterday I tried to get my membership, but the payment tools are not appropriate for foreigners (EC country, i am in France). Hope to get response and develop together the best service and parts for our beloved cars.
Med vänliga hälsningar
Nils

If you want to see/hear GM’s reasons for selling SAAB there is a YT clip with GM CEO Bob Lutz discussing why it was done.
Scania’s legedary CEO Leif Oestling figured SAAB out in few years and ditched it @ GM’s lap.
Thank you so much! Truly a great effort to save our great brand! We love saab globally!
Article appears to be old, but in this Facebook posting (as well as in SSK’s webshop) they present rear brake shields for 900/9000 with ABS which were not available a while ago – anywhere. Now they can be bought – for a mere 300€ a pair! That’s a pretty steep price, I think… But for the one in need – priceless
How about grilles for 87-93 900???? 69-26-778
