KM-Tronics and Mark V. Kampen have reached an important milestone in the development of a LED light bar for the Saab 9-3NG SportCombi. After months of testing with epoxy and glass prototypes, the first working unit has now been mounted on Mark’s own SportCombi — and he even shared a short video on YouTube to demonstrate the progress.

The project doesn’t stop here. Plans are already in place to create matching LED bars for the 9-3 Sedan and Convertible, bringing the whole 9-3NG lineup closer to the distinctive lighting identity Saab once envisioned for the 9-5NG.

Now Mark has a question for the Saab community:
Should the LED bar be a little brighter, or is the current intensity just right?

From our perspective, it might be best to balance the brightness so that it matches the OEM LED side position lights, creating a factory-like harmony and a look closer to the Saab 9-5NG LED bar.

  • Hallo ,

  • Hi, I agree with the comment that the lightbar should balance the brightness of the OEM position lights. I should have a look as if it was in original from the factory.

around the end of december we’ll be releasing the first version. which will likely be the version you see in the Saab Planet article aswell as a “ice cube OEM” style version🙂 as that one is at the moment the closest to production ready. The brighter led versions need abit more work and will likely release around March 2026.

  • Brilliant job would love the finished product on my Combi..yeah just a bit brighter on the bar to make it look like it was factory and not an add on..

  • My humble opinion , leave that to the Polestar 2… i prefer the ice cube lighting … but Nice project anyhow

  • My 2 cents….should be brighter to match the same intensity as the side position lights ;). Also have a 9-3NG sportcombi in Nocturne Dark Blue and would look great ;)
I’ll definitely buy one!! will it require a dedicated power connection or can we drive current from the licence plate lights? I ask this because I am unsure whether the unexpected current drawn from somewhere, could cause/raise unexpected warning signs on the ECU….;)

  • Ah, but I just realized, if we add that bar, I will loose my beloved Griffen badge (in favor of the letters “SAAB”). I am not sure I am ready to loose it…. ;(
