The Replacement Speaker Problem
Mark notes that many 30 mm mini PCB speakers with 8-ohm impedance and a measured resistance in the relevant range can restore function. The original Saab speaker is difficult to source, so the repair does not depend on finding the exact SAA-30B08K component.
That said, this is not a case where any random small speaker should be installed. Diameter, impedance, mounting style, board fitment, and electrical behavior all matter. The “30” in the speaker naming refers to its 30 mm size, which is the important physical reference.
An owner could also source a speaker from a high-mileage donor car, but that carries an obvious risk. The donor part may already be tired, or it may fail later for the same reason. A used Saab speaker from another MIU is not automatically better than a carefully selected new compatible component.

Mark mentions a customer case where the car had low mileage. Replacing the MIU with another used unit would not be ideal because the cluster is tied to the car’s mileage record. Adjusting mileage may be technically possible, but in many countries it is illegal or highly regulated.
For an enthusiast-owned Saab, mileage integrity matters. A low-mileage 9-3NG Aero, Turbo X, Convertible, SportCombi, or well-preserved diesel should not lose documentation value because of a failed internal speaker.
Repairing the original MIU keeps the car’s identity intact. It also avoids introducing another used electronic unit with an unknown history. A replacement cluster may have its own future faults, mismatched wear, incorrect configuration, or cosmetic differences.
