Gary’s Saab 9-3 2.8T (382bhp) tuned by Aura Tuning

Well it starts here.. with Gary Anderson. We all know a Gary, but this Gary is very special. He’s a Saab guy, and then some. A man on a mission to fully optimise his Saab 9-3 2.8T just how he wants it… and then some again.

Over the last 6 months it has been a work in progress to develop the 2.8 platform to cover and expand to even higher levels. Power, response, drivability… not every owner has the same tastes or requirements. That’s okay, each car and set-up requires a different approach.

Gary’s 9-3 features all the usual mods with exhaust, intercooler, induction etc. A new turbo with uprated actuator by Aura Tuning (specialising in performance tuning for the Saab, Opel/Vauxhall and other GM cars), 650cc injectors and full custom mapping sees a very different car. Final results see 382bhp & 468lbs/ft with a very wide powerband.

It’s crazy fast and responsive with the auto and manual shift working fantastic. The auto is now more tuned to the power allowing longer sweeps through the range without the excessive down shifting. The manual shifts though really give full control of the power, just exceptional.

Look forward to seeing it on track this year, and options to go with even more power with the range of Aura turbos.

His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
