This is from Ebay auction for this extremely rare Saab 9000 Carlsson (about 8 in total on the road currently), manufactured in 1989 on a F plate. This was the first year that the carlsson models were introduced and it is therefore one of the first few to roll of the line.
This is a reluctant sale as this car has been very pleasurable to drive and has been my daily driver for over 3 years now. Sadly having to sell it so that I can put the money towards putting my other collection of saabs on the road and eventually selling these also so that I only have one which to give my time to.
I am the first registered keeper of the Carlsson having aquired it from its original owner who was a director of a saab dealership in Northern Ireland and had the vehicle from new. It has fully stamped dealer service history documented in the service book until 179912 miles. When I purchased the Saab it was on approx. 188000 miles and is currently at just over 204000 miles. The mileage is testament to the engine and manual gearboxes bulletproof like nature.
I have kept all receipts for any work I have had done to it whilst in my ownership including a clutch, slave and master cylinder replacement carried out at 192287 miles by West Midlands Saab therefore it should not need replacing for approx.another 40000 miles. I have also replaced the exhaust with a bespoke 2.5″ inch stainless steel one from the downpipe back in September 2014, which sounds great but not boy racerish. Other work done to the vehicle whilst in my ownership includes replacing the ignition switch in Sept. 2014, in October 2014 The front brake pads were replaced, the rear disks and pads and also both rear brake calipers. The last full service was carried out in October 2015.
The Carlsson is now over 26 years of age and has overall stood up very well to the test of time but it is now beggining to show it’s age and does need a bit of TLC to bring it back up to scratch. The engine and gearbox are both good and overall mechanically it is pretty sound however there are some issues which need to be addressed in order to bring this as close to its original glory as possible. I will list any known issues and anything not listed then you can assume it is OK.
The rear arches are both begining to rust and will need attention, there is some bubbling and cracking around the sunroof area, in heavy downpours the sunroof will start to leak if left parked out in the rain but you do not get this issue whilst driving, it could be that the seal needs replacing or the drain holes may need unblocking. The front right wing is kinked when I burst my tyre after going over a glass bottle and hitting a kerb. The boot handle is broken and I have to open this with a screwdriver, the rear left door has developed a fault and I am no longer able to open it, the front left window is also out of allignment, the drivers side sunvisor is lazy and drops down. The radio works but the cassette player is jammed. The headlining is sagging and the material from the door cards is loose. Possibly front and rear ARB bushes will need replacing, the drivers seat base is sagging and the ABS light will flicker on and off but i have not experiencd any braking issues. There may be a couple of other things I may have missed out therefore I would recommend a viewing if you are seriously considering making a bid and satisfying yourself as to the vehicles condition.
The plus points are it has a good set of 15″ genuine BBS wheels all round with good tyres, the original carlsson stripe work is all there and the rear carlsson badge, it has an original set of saab rubber floor mats, the engine, gearbox and exhaust system are sound and everything else works as it should. No mod cons like a catalytic converter, air bags, traction control etc to go wrong. It is the full pressure turbo with the red APC box under the passenger seat complimented by an itg air filter.
It even has the original sales plate. A quintessential 80’s motoring icon.
Please check the below link, where I have uploaded more photos which show the interior and exterior and I have highlighted any known issues such as the rear arches. If you cannot use the link directly then please copy and paste it in to the address bar and it should then work.
